On any given day in Oregon, there are more than 5,000 children in foster care.
Albertina Kerr provides safe and caring homes for foster children with behavioral and mental health challenges as well as developmental disabilities. We work closely with the child, their family, team and foster care providers to understand and meet the unique needs of each child to improve the child's ability to succeed at home, school and to reunite them with their families when possible.
We offer foster care in 12 counties in Oregon including Multnomah, Clackamas, Washington, Marion, Clatsop, Columbia, Tillamook, Yamhill, Polk, Lincoln, Benton and Linn.
We offer two kinds of foster care:
Therapeutic Foster Care
We care for children who have experienced abuse and neglect. As a result, they often have emotional and developmental challenges that require special services and therapy. They experience challenges at school and may lag behind their peers because they have changed schools each time they moved homes. Staff train and provide a wide range of 24-hour support to foster families to create a sense of safety and security for the children served so that they can be successful in their placement.
Special Needs Foster Care
This program provides longer-term homes and care for children with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. These children often remain in foster care for a longer period of time. The program focuses on extensive support of the foster families to care for these children that have many
challenging
needs. Albertina Kerr staff also provides skills training for children as they began transition to self-sufficiency as an adult.
